Netflix said today that the mobile game Squidward Unleashed will be available for free for a limited time (including to non-members) ahead of the second season of the hit TV series. The game will be free-to-play starting on December 17, but the company didn't say when it would end.
Netflix has been investing heavily in making mobile games available through its app in recent years. Until now, a Netflix subscription was required to play all of its games, but now it wants to invite everyone to play Squidward Unleashed, and the company hopes to convert some of those players into users.
It is a multiplayer battle game adapted from the TV series. In order to win prizes, contestants will face a series of life and death games. In the game, players can also participate in these games, including red light, green light, and glass bridge.
Alain Tascan, president of Netflix Games, said: "Squidward is Netflix's most-watched series of all time, and we want everyone around the world to be a part of its return, a first for Netflix games. "Squidward: Unleashed"
is a game for playing iconic games from the series like Glass Bridge and Red Light Green Light with (or against) friends, so we invite everyone to join the brawl this holiday season. "
Netflix games are usually available for download from your phone's respective app store, so on December 17, if you want to play, just search for SquidGame: Unleashed and install it.
Netflix members can recently enjoy "Monument Valley 3" exclusively. While the first two games are available to everyone, the third is only available to Netflix subscribers.
