The Trump transition team has recommended that the incoming administration repeal the current general order requiring automakers to report accidents related to autonomous driving systems, the media reported, citing a document it obtained. Reports say that lifting this requirement will benefit Tesla; under this order, Tesla has reported more than 1,500 accidents to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, ranking first in the number.
The report said the recommendation to repeal the rule came from a transition team tasked with developing a 100-day strategy for auto policy.
The team described the order as forcing "excessive" data collection, according to the documents.
The Trump transition team, Tesla and its CEO Musk did not respond to requests for comment.
On November 18, the Trump team sought to relax self-driving car regulations in the United States.
After the news was announced, Tesla's stock price rose 3.23% to $431.6, setting a new intraday high.
