The application of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) technology in the smartphone industry has become a hot topic. Counterpoint Research conducted a survey on GenAI in seven countries including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Poland and Japan.
The results show that among more than 25,000 respondents, only 32% said they were familiar with GenAI. The United States had the highest awareness, reaching 72%, while Japan had the lowest awareness, with only 7% of respondents saying they understood it.
The survey pointed out that more than 70% of GenAI users use this technology through smartphones, with Generation Z users accounting for the highest proportion, showing the important role of mobile phones in promoting the popularization of GenAI.
In addition, nearly 60% of respondents plan to buy GenAI mobile phones in the new year, with American consumers having the strongest purchase intention, followed by Germany and France.
In terms of specific applications, users are most interested in writing assistance, image generation and voice assistant functions. Although consumers are very interested in GenAI mobile phones, only 19% of respondents are willing to pay extra for them.
This means that mobile phone manufacturers may need to adopt a low-cost strategy and seek other profit models, such as monetizing apps or providing LLM services to developers.
