Ecuador and Peru were hit by abnormal waves of 4 meters: 2 people died

According to CCTV News,Recently, abnormal waves have occurred on the Pacific coasts of the South American countries Ecuador and Peru for several days., the wave height can reach 4 meters, causing disasters such as seawater intrusion. The head of Ecuador’s Risk Management Secretariat said that at least two people have died from huge waves in the Manta region in the west of the country, and similar situations may occur in the future.

Enrique Barea, head of the Peruvian Navy's Marine Department, told the media on the same day that 91 ports across the country have been ordered to close due to the continuous intrusion of abnormal waves.

The country’s National Emergency Operations Center said,Unusual waves began on December 25 and are expected to last until January 1, 2025.

Breakwaters in some parts of Peru are currently submerged by waves, and residents have fled to higher ground for safety. Many beaches in central and northern Peru have been closed.

According to the Peruvian Navy, these abnormal waves were generated near the coast of the United States and were caused by winds on the ocean surface. Earlier this year, dozens of ports were closed on the Pacific coast of Peru due to abnormal waves.
