The development team is working towards the release of Debian 13 "Trixie" stable version in 2025, and as a New Year's Eve surprise, the first Alpha version of the Debian installer for Trixie was released today.

DebianInstallerTrixieAlpha1 has just been released and is the first tagged development version of the Debian installer Debian13Trixie.

While RISC-V64 bit has been added to hardware support for Debian 13, the Debian installer no longer builds for the armel and i386 architectures. Currently, the armel and i386 hardware architectures remain in the Debian archives, but will not appear in the Debian13 installer image... Say goodbye to the Debian 32-bit x86 installer, just like many other Linux distributions have been phasing out over the years. Last year, the mipsel architecture was also removed from Debian archives.

Debian installer Trixie is still being updated for the new Debian13 theme/design. The Debian installer has also received an overhaul of the user settings screen around initial user creation and root user setup. Additionally, the heuristics for automatic partitioning have been improved in calculating swap size. Various other improvements have been made to the installer.

More details about today's release of DebianInstallerTrixieAlpha1 can be found on the Debian mailing list.
