In a thank you post on the Twitter platform in late 2024, Hideo Kojima revealed that two of his studio's new games were affected by the SAG-AFTRA strike, causing the production of both games to be delayed.
Affected games include OD and Physint. OD development has entered the casting and environment scanning stage, while Physint is in the casting process. However, according to Hideo Kojima, both had to be suspended: "For "OD," we had developed the game and conducted cast and environment scans. In the second half of the year, scanning and filming were suspended due to the SAG strike. Casting for "Physint" was also suspended due to the strike. We hope to resume next year."
Considering that the SAG-AFTRA strike has affected many studios, this news is not too surprising. Earlier this year, the group announced it was preparing to strike if publishers did not provide AI protections for video game actors. Previously, after nearly a year of negotiations, both parties had made no progress.
SAG-AFTRA has been busy since then and has achieved many victories. These include a deal with Narrativ, an AI voice platform that licenses AI voice replication.
Kojima hopes that the production of "OD" and "Physint" can restart in 2025, which will also have a good impact on the SAG-AFTRA strike. There isn't much information about either game yet, but fans can watch the trailer for OD below:
Physint is an in-development action spy game that's particularly exciting for fans of Metal Gear Solid.
