Wei Dongyi was born in Jinan, Shandong in 1991 and is a native of Dongyang, Zhejiang. He is an assistant professor at Peking University and a researcher at the Differential Equations Teaching and Research Office of the Department of Mathematics, School of Mathematical Sciences, Peking University.
Wei Dongyi was promoted to the High School Affiliated to Shandong Normal University in 2007. In 2008, when he was a freshman in high school, he participated in the 49th International Mathematical Olympiad and won the gold medal with perfect scores.
In 2009, when he was a sophomore in high school, he participated in the 50th International Mathematical Olympiad and won the gold medal with perfect scores.
In 2010, he was recommended to study at Peking University. After graduating from the undergraduate program in 2014, he studied for a combined master's and doctoral degree at Peking University. After graduating from the Ph.D. in 2018, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Beijing International Mathematics Research Center.
He was hired as an assistant professor at Peking University in 2019, and won the Dharma Academy Green Orange Award in 2021.
It is reported that Wei Dongyi’s main research fields are partial differential equations, geometric analysis, etc. In May 2021, when Wei Dongyi was interviewed, the image of holding a bottle of mineral water and two steamed buns became popular, and he was called "Wei Shen" by netizens.
