The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said that a 2024 Cybertruck was parked in front of the glass door of the Trump Hotel, and smoke suddenly came out of the car, followed by a big explosion. Authorities said the driver of the truck was dead and seven other people suffered minor injuries.
In a series of posts on Musk said the Cybertruck and the pickup used in New Orleans were both leased from Turo, adding, "Maybe they are related in some way."
Turo is a car-sharing marketplace that allows car owners to rent out their vehicles.
The incident in Las Vegas comes as the FBI and police investigate an attack in New Orleans on Wednesday morning that left at least 15 people dead and more than 30 injured.
The FBI said authorities found an "Islamic State" flag on the vehicle and officials are working to determine any potential ties or affiliations the suspect, Shamsud-Din Jabbar, may have with the terrorist group. An improvised explosive device was found in the vehicle, according to a law enforcement official briefed on the development who spoke on condition of anonymity.
Las Vegas police, referring to the New Orleans incident, said they were taking every precaution to keep the community safe, including searching for secondary explosive devices. They added that there did not appear to be any further threats at this time.
