Domestic new car sales in Japan in 2024 will be 442,1494 units, a year-on-year decrease of 7.5%. This is the second time Japan has experienced negative growth after two years.The main reason for the decline in sales was the suspension of production by local Japanese car companies such as Daihatsu Industries, Toyota Motor and Mazda due to certification violations and other issues.
In April 2023, Daihatsu Motor's test fraud was exposed. Since Daihatsu Motor manufactures for other Japanese car companies, it uses roughly the same parts suppliers.
The scope of the investigation expanded to 85 automakers, equipment manufacturers and other companies, and test fraud at Toyota, Mazda, Yamaha, Honda and Suzuki was also exposed.
Tang Jin, chief researcher of the Business Solutions Department of Mizuho Bank, commented,After the scandal was exposed, many companies stopped producing a variety of models, affecting the entire industrial chain. If Japan's manufacturing industry does not completely improve in the future, Japan's "craftsmanship spirit" will no longer shine.
After the home appliances, semiconductors and electronics industries have been overtaken one after another, if the automobile industry also begins to decline, Japan's entire manufacturing industry will lose confidence.
