Sony is launching an "extended reality" headset, the Xyn (pronounced zin), for creating 3D objects for movies, animations and games. The device, which Sony first teased at last year's CES, will feature a 4KOLED display, video passthrough, and support for third-party design, modeling and production software.

According to the video shared by Sony, the wearer appears to be able to flip the headset up when not in use. However, it doesn't appear to come with the ring and hands Sony showed off last year.

In addition to the headset, Sony also showed off XynMotion Studio, a companion Windows app that supports up to 12 Mocopi sensors, Sony's wireless motion tracking system that V-Tuber and other creators often use to control avatars. The software features motion editing features that allow creators to trim and merge motions, as well as adjust timing and position.

There is also a prototype of a "space capture solution" that is said to use Sony's algorithms to transform images of real objects and spaces into "lifelike" 3D computer-generated assets. It's been a year since Sony's initial teaser, but there are still very few details about what the headset can do beyond view and interact with 3D objects.

Sony plans to release its XynMotion Studio software at the end of March 2025, but there's still no word on the availability or pricing of its headset.
