China Southern Airlines announced that the fourth runway of Guangzhou Baiyun Airport was officially opened today, becoming the only four-runway airport in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.It is understood that the fourth runway of Guangzhou Baiyun Airport (West Runway 2) is located on the west side of the West Runway 1. It is 3,400 meters long and 45 meters wide, meeting the requirements for the takeoff and landing of large E-class aircraft.
In order to ensure the opening of the fourth runway, China Southern Airlines, as the main base airline of Baiyun Airport, actively cooperates with Baiyun Airport to complete the flight calibration and test flights before the runway is put into use, and participates in the runway switching drill throughout the process to ensure operational safety during the transition period.
China Southern Airlines stated that with the opening of the fourth runway of Baiyun Airport, China Southern Airlines will further increase the number of flights at Baiyun Airport and build a globally competitive international aviation hub.
In 2024, Baiyun Airport completed a passenger throughput of 76.369 million passengers, an increase of 20.89% over the same period last year, setting a record high, and won the "five consecutive championships" in the country in annual passenger throughput!
