Apple confirmed today that "several" automakers still plan to support next-generation CarPlay in future models. Apple said each car brand will share more details closer to the launch of these models, but did not provide a timetable. Here's Apple's statement about the next generation of CarPlay:

The next generation of CarPlay builds on years of success and insights gained from CarPlay to deliver the best of Apple and automakers with deeply integrated and customizable experiences. We continue to work closely with multiple automakers to enable them to showcase their unique branding and visual design concepts in the next generation of CarPlay. Each car brand will share more details closer to the release of next-generation CarPlay-enabled models.

Apple will also continue to work on its current CarPlay platform, which it says is available on more than 98% of new cars sold in the U.S. over the past few years.

Just minutes before the announcement, Apple updated its website to remove its previous statement that the next generation of CarPlay would be available in 2024.
