A supply chain report claims that the smaller iPhone 16 Pro will be equipped with Apple's quad-prism 120mm camera, driving demand for this imaging technology in 2024. The iPhone 15 Pro Max may only be released in September, but rumors that the iPhone 16 Pro will inherit its four-prism camera are already circulating. The 120mm focal length is currently exclusive to Apple's largest Pro model, but that's expected to change in 2024.
Supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo shared a brief report on 2024 orders from prism supplier Largan Optoelectronics and Apple. Apple is expected to add new cameras to its smaller Pro models in 2024, which will lead to a 160% year-over-year increase in iPhones using the technology.
Ming-Chi Kuo's earlier report showed that iPhone shipments using prism technology will only increase by 110%, but this is due to Largan Optoelectronics' low yield rate. Apple has worked with suppliers to increase yield rates from 40% in the third quarter to 70% or higher in the fourth quarter.
This change makes assembly of this component more profitable. Largan Optoelectronics also supplies periscope lenses to Huawei, and Huawei will also increase its use of this component in 2024.
Gou's report is derived from supply chain orders, and his history of accuracy and supply chain reporting gives this report a high degree of credibility.
Apple will release iPhone 16 Pro in September 2024. Rumors suggest it will feature a larger display, a new camera system, and Wi-Fi 7.
