U.S. firefighters said on Friday that the Eaton Fire in Los Angeles was fully under control. It's a symbolic milestone after the fires raged for more than three weeks. The fire burned more than 14,000 acres (approximately 57 square kilometers) east of Los Angeles.
Cal Fire said the Palisades Fire is also fully contained. The fire burned 23,448 acres (95 square kilometers) on the west side of Los Angeles.
Cal Fire said two large fires plus several smaller fires caused the worst natural disaster in Los Angeles County's history, killing 28 people and damaging or destroying more than 16,000 structures. According to Los Angeles County officials, at one point 180,000 people were under evacuation orders.
The weather agency AccuWeather estimates that the damage and economic losses caused by the fires exceed 250 billion US dollars.
