Mozilla recently released the official version of Firefox v135.0 for all platforms. The installation file of this version is already available for download on the FTP server. The full push will start tomorrow, so it is normal if the new version cannot be checked temporarily. Important improvements in the new version include the mandatory requirement for transparency of TLS digital certificates. Years ago, the CA/Browser Forum has required that all certificates must provide transparency logs, that is, certificate-related information has been made public and can be queried.
The significance of certificate transparency is to avoid some irresponsible CAs from quietly issuing certain digital certificates to achieve hijacking or other purposes. With certificate transparency, new digital certificates will have public information for inquiry from the time they are issued.
In the new version of the Firefox browser, all TLS certificates must enable certificate transparency before they can be trusted by the Firefox browser. Therefore, some certificates issued many years ago may not be trusted due to transparency issues. This problem can only be solved by the website administrator replacing the new certificate.
Other highlights of Firefoxv135.0 version:
1. Support binary packaged XZ files on the Linux platform. This function has been tested and can decompress the package faster and reduce the file size.
2. When multiple tabs are open on Linux and macOS platforms, you can use the exit keyboard shortcut to close only the current tab.
3. Protection measures: Prevent the website from overwhelming the back history by sending a large number of continuous visits in a short period of time, that is, solving the problem of being unable to feed back the previous page through back (this problem exists in both Sina and NetEase 163 mobile versions. When users click back, they will be forced to jump to the homepage of these websites instead of returning to the previous page, which is essentially hijacking user access)
4. Modify the menu description: Copy without site tracking in the right-click menu is renamed to Copy clean link. This function will automatically delete the tracking identifier when copying the link.
5. Starting from this version, Firefox enables the AI chatbot function by default. Of course, users can also choose not to use it.
6. Remove the option to send Do Not Track requests (DNT) to websites from Privacy & Security and Website Privacy Preferences. This option is not only useless but may also be tracked as part of a digital fingerprint.
7. Added a setting option to automatically submit crash reports in the Android version but it is not turned on by default. If the user actively turns it on, relevant logs will be automatically submitted after subsequent crashes.
8. The last update also adds support for the HTTP/3 post-quantum key exchange mechanism mlkem768x25519
