In the new version, the long-awaited vertical tab mode will be officially launched. After enabling vertical tabs, users can choose whether to view the sidebar for quick access to bookmarks and tabs on other devices.
In addition to vertical tabs, this update will bring hardware video decoding function to Firefox for Linux version on AMDGPU. Enabling hardware decoding can reduce CPU resource consumption and save power; H.265/HEVC video content can be hardware accelerated on Firefox for Linux, which can also be used to improve playback efficiency and reduce power consumption.
Another small improvement is that when copying images from Firefox, it supports PNG format images to include transparency display and will directly disable cookies and enable banner notifications by default in incognito mode. After all, third-party cookies should not be allowed to reside in incognito mode.
In terms of security, Firefox v136.0 will improve the HTTPS priority behavior. By default, regardless of whether the address entered by the user contains HTTPS, Firefox will load HTTPS by default. However, if HTTPS cannot be accessed, Firefox will automatically fall back to HTTP for processing.
Firefox v136.0 is still under development and contains more new features. Some of these new features will be launched in version 136, and some are launched as experimental options. You can see these new features when the official version is released in March.
