According to South Korean sources (OLED-info), Apple supplier BOE has once again experienced problems with OLED panels produced for iPhones, prompting Apple to consider shifting orders to Samsung Display and LG Display. The Chinese display maker has reportedly been struggling to meet Apple's quality standards for its LTP SAMOLED displays for iPhone 14, 15 and 16 models.
Since the beginning of 2024, BOE has only delivered about 7-8 million panels to Apple, which is far lower than its order volume of about 40 million units.
It is expected to take at least six weeks to resolve quality issues. At the same time, industry insiders said that Samsung Display may receive most of the redirected orders because LG Display's production capacity is mainly focused on producing LTP AMOLED displays for iPhone "Pro" models.
This is just the latest setback for BOE in iPhone OLED production. BOE also faced similar challenges in 2023, when the company was in trouble over the light leakage problem of the smart island punch hole in the iPhone 15 display, causing Apple to significantly reduce orders.
