According to foreign reports, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said that the company’s latest update to ChatGPT4o makes it the best search product on the Internet. Altman said in a post on X on Saturday that ChatGPT4o is pretty good and will get better soon.
He retweeted posts praising the chatbot’s writing skills as too good to be true and human-like.
The GPT-4o model (the "o" stands for omni) was first released in May and impressed users with its ability to handle text, audio, and images as input and output.
OpenAI recently touted GPT4o’s smarter models that provide more relevant, timely, and contextual answers, especially for questions involving cultural and social trends.
It's unclear whether Ultraman is referring to the new ChatGPT4o update or the update the company outlined on January 29. OpenAI did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Altman's comments about GPT4o's search capabilities came during a playful exchange with Aravind Srinivas, founder and CEO of search-focused AI startup Perplexity.
Srinivas, who previously worked at OpenAI, responded to Altman's post about the GPT4o update, saying: Sorry, what's the update?
Altman responded that, among other things, it was the best search product on the Web and suggested Srinivas check it out.
Srinivas replied that his company had just released an in-depth research agent.
In his reply, Altman told Srinivas to keep doing it out there and that he was proud.
EvercoreISI research shows that ChatGPT’s search market share increased from June to November 2024, challenging Google’s dominance in this lucrative field.
