Tesla has released the 2025.2.6 software update in North America. This update is mainly for the 2022 and subsequent Model Y models, activating the millimeter wave radar hardware hidden in the vehicle cockpit.
The main functions of these radar hardware include detecting the presence, number and precise location of passengers in the car. They can also monitor whether passengers are wearing seat belts, recognize user gestures and detect whether someone smashes the windows and steals property in the car.
Specifically,These radar hardware uses Texas Instruments' AWR6843 millimeter-wave radar chip, which has 3 transmitters and 4 receivers. Its horizontal field of view (FOV) is 120 degrees and the vertical field of view is 60 degrees, and it operates in the 60-64GHz frequency band.
The application of these technologies not only enhances the safety performance of the vehicle, but also improves the user experience, making the Tesla Model Y a step further in terms of intelligent driving assistance systems.
