Humane announced today that it will sell "critical AI capabilities" to HP for $116 million and will stop selling AIPin hardware products. Humane said in a support document that AIPin that has been purchased will continue to operate normally until February 28 at 3 p.m. ET.

Thereafter, AIPin will "no longer connect to Humane's servers." As a result, its functionality will "no longer include calling, messaging, AI query/reply, or cloud access." Humane also encourages users to package and download any pictures, videos, and notes stored on their Pins before they are permanently deleted upon closing.

According to its FAQ page about the discontinuation, Humane only offers refunds for AIPin "returned within 90 days of the original ship date." Refund requests "must be submitted by February 27, 2025."

Users who have been waiting to replace the charging case after the product recall will "automatically receive a refund for the portion of the original purchase price allocated to the charging case after February 28, 2025."

As for the AI assets purchased by HP, they include Humane's "AI-driven platform Cosmos, highly skilled technical talent, and intellectual property with more than 300 patents and patent applications," Humane said in its press release.
