Yesterday evening, Lotus China President Mao Jingbo released a "Letter to Car Owners" on the Lotus Sports Car APP to respond to the recent controversy related to Chinese naming. On February 14, Lotus launched two new cars, ELETRE "Summer Flower" and EMEYA "Flower". Among them, "Xia Hua" was interpreted by some car owners as a homophony of "slide" and considered to have a bad connotation.

In this regard, Mao Jingbo said that the original intention of giving Eletre a Chinese name was to make it easy to remember and read, and to give it a beautiful meaning: life is as gorgeous as summer flowers. However, according to user feedback, "Xia Hua" has been misunderstood. We have decided that the Eletre model will no longer use the Chinese name of "Xia Hua".
