Meta has officially expanded MetaAI to the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), opening its artificial intelligence chatbot to more people. Back in October, Meta announced that it would launch MetaAI in six additional markets, including Brazil and the United Kingdom.
In the future, MetaAI will be launched in Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Libya, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Yemen. At the same time, Meta is also extending language support to Arabic.
By tagging @meta in chats on apps like Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger, users can summon the virtual assistant - availability varies by region - to recommend nearby tourist attractions or add songs to a road trip playlist. Meta said it plans to offer multi-modal AI capabilities across the MENA region and will include tools such as "Imagine Me" to create user-style selfies and audio dubbing for InstagramReels.
Meta announced that MetaAI is currently available in 42 countries and regions in 13 languages, and its various applications (including WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger and Facebook itself) have approximately 700 million users.
The exact feature set available in each market does vary, though, with MetaAI limited to asking questions on its Ray-Ban MetaAR glasses in some European countries due to data privacy regulations, for example.
