SIE announced a price reduction for PSVR2, with the retail price reduced from 550 US dollars/600 euros/530 pounds/74980 yen to 400 US dollars/450 euros/400 pounds/66980 yen. The new prices will be implemented starting in March.
Sony's headset for PS5 and Windows PC was temporarily reduced by $200 during the holidays, but that's about to become the norm.
Sony announced on Thursday that both the $550 standalone bundle and the $600 bundle that includes PSVR 2 launch game Horizon: Call of the Mountain will cost $400 each. The exact date of the price reduction has not yet been announced, so the price reduction will probably start on March 1.
This is good news because most of the cost-related news in 2025 will be about prices rising rather than falling as tariffs are imposed on goods. However, a price cut like this may reflect a slowdown in the release of Sony's PSVR2, which first launched in 2023.
A year after launch, Sony added PC support for PSVR2 — which required the purchase of a $59.99 PSVR2 PC adapter — though the PC experience was a bit lacking compared to the PS5, with no support for native eye-tracking or on-screen HDR to make games look their best.
Foreign media Polygon said that if you like VR, then no matter which platform you want to play on, the US$400 PSVR2 "is an incredible value choice." On PC, it's cheaper than ValveIndex, which starts at $500. It's especially worth buying if you already own a PS5. Compared to the $300 MetaQuest 3S, which is a wireless device with all the hardware contained within the headset, the PSVR 2 connects via a long USB-C cable. Thanks to this direct connection, both resolution and image quality are significantly improved.
While developer support has slowed significantly compared to the headset's early days, there's still plenty of great content to try out, including Resident Evil 4: Remake and Resident Evil 8: Village's PS5-exclusive VR mode. Not to mention, VR is the most immersive way to experience Gran Turismo 7, Tetris Effect: Connect, and No Man's Sky. Newer titles include Metro: Awakening VR, as well as a patch for Hitman: World of Assassination that includes full VR support.
