In response to the new U.S. policies, TSMC is accelerating the introduction of its advanced manufacturing processes in the United States. It is understood that TSMC will follow the schedule and mass-produce the A16 angstrom process in Taiwan in the second half of 2026, followed by the "Taiwan-US connection", and the A16 process will be introduced in the third factory in Arizona in 2028.
According to sources, TSMC originally planned to mass produce 2nm in Taiwan in the second half of 2025 and the A16 process in the second half of 2026.
It was originally estimated that TSMC could mass-produce 2nm in the United States as early as 2028. Under the pressure of U.S. tariffs, TSMC may accelerate the mass production of 2nm in the United States or accelerate the introduction of the A16 process to show goodwill and meet the needs of customers in the U.S. market.
Former U.S. Secretary of Commerce Raimondo confirmed in early 2025 that TSMC had agreed to produce the most advanced chip manufacturing technology A16 in Arizona.
