TSMC announced on Monday an additional investment of US$100 billion in the United States. Regarding concerns that TSMC will become "US Semiconductor", Taiwan's Minister of Economic Affairs Kuo Chi-hui responded today that such concerns are unnecessary.
In response to TSMC's new investment, Kuo told reporters on Tuesday that TSMC already has factories in the United States, Japan and Germany. TSMC's global layout in advanced technology is very important.
According to Taiwanese media reports, the outside world is also worried about whether TSMC’s investment in the United States will lead to the migration of related supply chains to the United States. Kuo Zhihui admitted that this may happen in the long term, but judging from the current amount of TSMC’s investment, the number of supply chains required may not be enough to attract the migration of the entire supply chain.
