There are many NetworkManagerVPN plugins available online for different virtual private network providers, and these are certainly a great way to set up VPN access on your Linux desktop. However, for those interested in using ExpressVPN’s official Linux client, they now offer a graphical user interface to simplify the setup process using their commercial VPN service and proprietary software packages.

ExpressVPN previously offered a CLI-only Linux version, but today they announced a new beta version of the Linux app with a "new GUI and advanced features."

This is a proprietary package and only available for Linuxx86_64 installations. Most Linux users are better off using a solution that is compatible with the NetworkManagerVPN plugin for an open source experience that integrates perfectly with the modern Linux desktop.

Additionally, the VPN service supports WireGuard instead of OpenVPN and ExpressVPN’s proprietary LightwayVPN protocol.

Officials have tested the ExpressVPNLinuxGUI application beta version on Ubuntu, Debian (including Raspberry PiOS), Fedora, LinuxMint and ArchLinux.
