TSMC's additional investment of US$100 billion in the United States has attracted attention, and has even triggered concerns in Taiwan that TSMC will become "American Semiconductor". In response, TSMC CEO Wei Zhejia held a press conference this afternoon to explain investment in the United States.

Wei Zhejia emphasized that TSMC builds production lines everywhere for the needs of customers, and in the United States it is also for the needs of customers. Customer needs are TSMC's biggest consideration. This increase in investment in the United States is because the demand from American customers is very large. TSMC’s current expansion plan in the United States is not enough and there is no way to meet their needs. TSMC’s U.S. customers include Apple, Nvidia and other companies.

He also said that TSMC’s investment plans in Taiwan will not be affected by investment in the United States. The company will continue to build production lines in Taiwan, and will build 11 production lines this year.

A reporter asked that one of the island's major concerns about TSMC's expansion of investment in the United States is that Taiwan's core competitiveness will slowly be lost. Wei Zhejia took the 2-nanometer process as an example and emphasized the importance of experience. He said that from R&D to production, every step needs to be continuously optimized and improved in order to make progress. The implication is that Taiwanese factories have an experience advantage.
