Maserati's MC20 Folgore electric supercar project, originally scheduled to be launched this year, has been officially cancelled. Previously,Maserati promised to launch an electric version when it released the fuel version of the MC20 in 2020, planning to be equipped with a 700-horsepower three-motor system. However, there has been no progress in the electric version since the fuel version was launched in 2022.
Last year, Maserati also announced that the electric version would be released in 2025, but it has now been shelved due to "insufficient market demand."
The company stated,Market research shows that supercar buyers prefer powerful internal combustion engines and will not consider pure electrification in the short term.
In addition, Maserati will significantly upgrade the fuel version of the MC20, and some improvements may come from the racing version.
At the same time, the electric version of the Quattroporte sedan originally planned to be launched in 2024 has been postponed to 2028, and there are still doubts whether the large electric SUV planned to be launched in 2027 can be promoted on time.
