Xbox's recent "This is Xbox" and "It can all be Xbox" projects are heating up rapidly, but there are more and more doubts about the company and the Xbox hardware platform. Microsoft wouldn't have become a console hardware maker in the first place "if it had the chance," according to a former Xbox executive.

Former Xbox executive Peter Moore recently discussed console wars, Microsoft's first-party games landing on other platforms, and Microsoft's position in console hardware during a recent podcast.

When asked whether Microsoft should continue to develop hardware, Moore said: "If they had the choice, would they make the hardware? No. They would certainly be happier if they could become a hundred billion dollar company that delivers content directly to your TV or whatever display device you choose."

"It's the classic (streaming company) Netflix model. No lag, no lag - you're right into (the experience), you don't need another box between you and your controller and your TV. But consoles - as we're seeing with Nintendo now... people love their hardware."
