An environmental nonprofit sued the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Citibank on Saturday in a bid to secure billions of dollars in funding for solar and other projects that have been stalled by banks freezing funds as a result of the Trump administration's deep cuts in federal spending.
The Climate United Fund said the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s blockage of Citibank from disbursing a grant approved by the Biden administration “harmed the Climate United Fund, its borrowers, and the communities they serve.”
It's the latest in a slew of lawsuits filed by nonprofit groups, state attorneys general and other interested parties. The lawsuits seek to fend off Republican President Donald Trump's efforts to shrink federal bureaucracies and spending and overhaul U.S. immigration, foreign and social policy as he reverses the policies of Democrat Joe Biden.
Judges have blocked Trump's actions in some cases, but Trump has also scored some legal victories.
The Climate United Fund said in its court filing that it was selected last April for the EPA's National Clean Investment Fund program to provide loans to developers across the country to support solar power, electric trucks and energy-efficient housing projects.
