Ge Xianhong from the National Rapeseed Engineering Technology Research Center of Huazhong Agricultural University said: "We originally wanted to introduce some of the anti-viral components of isatis root into rape through the hybridization of rape and isatis root, which can improve the disease resistance of rape. But during the process, we found that after introducing some components of isatis root into rape, it does have some good anti-viral activity in the human body, so we finally developed it into a new type of vegetable."

Isatis greens not only taste sweet, but also have significant anti-viral, anti-inflammatory, and immune-modulating properties. After continuous research and iteration, this new hybrid variety "Song You No. 1" (registered name) with broad-spectrum anti-viral effects was developed.
