NBC will continue to broadcast the Olympics in the United States for the foreseeable future. Its parent company Comcast just announced a deal with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to continue broadcasting the Olympics on NBC platforms, including Peacock, until 2036.

Many Chinese viewers still remember the wonderful broadcast of the 2008 Beijing Olympics opening ceremony from NBC.

TheHollywoodReporter pointed out that NBC’s previous agreement with the International Olympic Committee extended the streaming rights for the Olympics until 2032. The new deal will take its place with expanded media rights worth $3 billion for the 2033 to 2036 Olympic cycle. The next Olympics will be held in Italy next year.

The Olympics played an important role in helping NBC boost Peacock's users and ratings. During last year's Paris Olympics, viewership increased by 33% as Peacock launched multi-view footage and GoldZone, as well as comprehensive coverage of various events.

NBC has been a major partner of the Olympics for decades. Since 1964, it has broadcast a total of 19 Olympic Games, 13 of which were broadcast consecutively.
