Microsoft is testing AI-powered snippets in Windows Notepad. In an update rolling out to WindowsInsiders in the Canary and Dev channels, you will be able to summarize information in Notepad by highlighting a large section of text, right-clicking on the text and selectingSummary.
Notepad will then generate a summary of the text, with the option to change the length of the summary. You can also generate a summary by selecting the text and using the Ctrl+M shortcut or by selecting the "Summary" option from the Copilot menu.
The length of the AI summary can be changed in Notepad.
As with other AI features in Windows 11, you must be logged in with a Microsoft account to use Notepad’s AI summary. You can also disable the AI feature entirely from the app settings menu. Last year, Microsoft first began testing an AI-powered rewrite tool in Notepad.
In addition to AI summaries, Microsoft is also testing the ability to view recently closed files in Notepad. Additionally, it brings a new feature called "Draw & Hold" to the snipping tool.
When using the software to mark up screenshots, you can hold down the cursor a little longer while drawing a line, arrow, rectangle, or oval, and it will automatically straighten your lines. You can then resize, move or reshape it. This sounds very similar to a feature offered by Apple.
