The April 2025 Update for Windows 10 is scheduled to be released on April 8, and it will include a controversial change: seconds will no longer be displayed in the calendar pop-up window.
Specifically, when users click on the time and date on the taskbar, the pop-up calendar window will no longer display seconds, and this update also removes a separate line for "day, month, year, and week."
While most users may not care about this detail, for those who need a precise time reference, this change may be an inconvenience.
For example, some users may rely on seconds to check the execution of scheduled tasks, or require precise time reference when performing time-sensitive operations.
Microsoft has previously said that displaying seconds via the graphical user interface (GUI) can negatively impact performance because the operating system takes extra time to update and "periodic activity prevents the CPU from entering low-power states."
Microsoft previously removed the taskbar seconds display feature in Windows 11, but added it back after user feedback.
But since support for Windows 10 will end on October 14, 2025, this means Microsoft may not restore this feature based on user feedback as it did in Windows 11
