On the occasion of Earth Day, Apple announced that its global greenhouse gas emissions have dropped by 60% compared with 2015. apple inc.in 2020The final goal announced is ambitious, to say the least. The project, called "Apple 2030," revolves around the goal of becoming 100% carbon neutral by 2030. While Apple is already carbon neutral at a global corporate level, the company hopes to achieve carbon neutrality across its entire business, manufacturing supply chain and product life cycle.

“We’re incredibly proud of the progress we’ve made toward our Apple 2030 goals, which span every aspect of our business,” said Lisa Jackson, Apple’s vice president of environment, policy and social initiatives.
Now more than ever, we are using clean energy and recycled materials to make our products, we are protecting water resources and preventing waste around the world, and we are investing heavily in nature conservation. As we approach 2030, the work will get even tougher – and we will meet the challenge with innovation, collaboration and a sense of urgency.
More specifically, Apple 2030 plans to reduce emissions by 75% by 2030 while developing carbon removal solutions for the remaining 25% of its carbon footprint. According to Apple, the company managed to avoid approximately 41 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions by 2024.
Apple has achieved emissions reductions through a variety of measures, including cleaning up the power supply needed to supply its supply chain. Currently, Apple’s global supply chain of renewable electricity has reached 17.8 gigawatts, an increase of 17% over the previous year.
Apple is also working with its suppliers to clean up carbon emissions from production. Semiconductors and flat panel displays emit potent fluorinated greenhouse gases (F-GHGs) during their production.
Apple said its 26 semiconductor suppliers have committed to reducing emissions by 90%. Since these factories often produce materials for other companies, the initiative also reduces carbon emissions outside of Apple.
All of the company's direct display suppliers have made the same commitment. In 2024, display and semiconductor suppliers will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 8.4 million metric tons.
Apple is making more progress in reducing waste. By 2024, Apple suppliers will have diverted 600,000 tons of waste from landfills.
Apple and its suppliers have saved 14 billion gallons of fresh water by 2024, bringing the total to 90 billion gallons since launching the Supplier Clean Water Program in 2013. The company currently plans to replenish 100% of its freshwater withdrawals in high-stress areas over the next five years.

Of course, Apple is also continuing to reduce its reliance on native rare earth elements used to drive functions such as batteries and Taptic Engine. The company recently exceeded its 2025 goal of using 100% recycled rare earth elements for all magnets and 100% recycled cobalt for all Apple-designed batteries.
In 2025, Apple launched a new MacBook Air with a recycled material content of up to 55%, the highest among Apple products. In 2024, Apple launched the first carbon-neutral product in the Mac series: the new Mac mini. Customers can also choose a carbon-neutral Apple Watch in any material.
Ahead of Earth Day 2025, Apple has also launched a new promotion encouraging customers to recycle old and unwanted devices next month.
Now through May 16, Apple is offering 10% off qualifying accessories if you bring your old device to a participating Apple Store for recycling. Customers can recycle a variety of old devices, including Apple devices like AirPods, Apple TV, and HomePods, and even third-party devices like printers, mice, and keyboards.
