According to the Australian Financial ReviewandSydney Morning HeraldA popular Australian radio station has been using an AI-generated DJ to host its shows for months - but no one seemed to notice. This stallIt's called "Workdays with Thy"The show is a four-hour show that blends hip-hop, R&B and pop music, but there's no sign that host Thy's voice was generated by artificial intelligence.
"With Thy" is broadcast on Sydney radio station CADA. Its owner ARN Media confirmed to the Financial Review that while Thy was generated by artificial intelligence, the presenter's voice and appearance were modeled after a real employee in the company's finance department. As first reported by The Carpet newsletter, Thy's voice was created by artificial intelligence speech generator ElevenLabs.

Neither CADA’s website nor the show itself discloses that its hosts are generated by artificial intelligence. "Handpicked by our music experts, these songs are either trending or about to hit the charts - listen to them first on Thy so you can brag to your friends that you were the first to hear them," the show description reads.
This isn’t the only recent example of AI-generated content being ignored. Microsoft launched an AI-generated Surface ad in January, but didn't reveal its use of AI until now.
According to the Financial Review, "Workdays with Thy" first appeared on the CADA website in November 2024, and its ratings indicated that "at least 72,000 people watched it." Teresa Lim, vice-president of the Australian Voice Actors Guild, harshly criticized ARN Media for failing to disclose its use of artificial intelligence presenters. "Australian listeners deserve honest and upfront disclosure, not a lack of transparency that leads them to trust a fake person they believe to be a real presenter," Lim wrote on LinkedIn.
ARN chief executive Ciaran Davis told the Financial Review: "We are trying to understand what is real and what is not real. We have recognized the power of our broadcasters."
Other radio stations are experimenting with artificial intelligence, including one in Portland, Oregon, and Sirius XM. Last year, a Polish radio station fired journalists and replaced them with artificial intelligence presenters – an “experiment” that was later halted after a backlash.
