Windows 11 is growing in popularity. In March 2025, the operating system gained ground in catching up with the upcoming Windows 10Huge progress, and by April, its market share had increased significantly. Statcounter reports that as of May 1, 2025, Windows 11 holds 43.72% of the Windows market share.
In April 2025, Windows 11’s market share increased by 1.03 percentage points. Windows 10, on the other hand, is losing customers who migrate to the new version before support ends later this year. According to Statcounter, Windows 10 dropped 1.26 percentage points in April and now has a market share of 52.94% of all PCs running Windows systems worldwide.
Over the past 12 months, Windows 11's market share grew from 26.19% to 43.72% (+17.53 percentage points), while Windows 10's market share fell from 69.89% to 52.94% (-16.95 percentage points). Microsoft is expected to accelerate the rollout of Windows 11, but even after mainstream support ends, Windows 10 isn't going away. Although Microsoft encourages users to upgrade or abandon unsupported devices, its expanded security update program will keep a large number of users using Windows 10 for years to come.
