Someone shared an image of a fake MagSafe battery pack with a USB-C charging port instead of a Lightning charging port on social media sites, which may hint that Apple may also be preparing to release such an accessory. The MagSafe external battery pack is a widely counterfeited accessory, but to date, most one-to-one knockoffs feature a Lightning port. A series of images recently shared on X (formerly Twitter) and Weibo show the same replica equipped with a USB-C charging port.

It is expected that the entire iPhone15 series will abandon the Lightning interface and adopt a USB-C charging interface for the first time, and Apple is expected to bring USB-C to other devices and accessories next year. It is unclear whether Apple plans to release a new version of the MagSafe battery pack equipped with a USB-C port, but Apple is expected to release other accessories, such as the MagSafe charging case for AirPods Pro, at the same time as the iPhone 15 models.
Mark Gurman of Bloomberg said on a recent episode of the MacRumors Show podcast that Apple is looking to switch all of its accessory products to USB-C by next year, which may include MagSafe battery packs. The transition will apparently be relatively quick, just like the transition to the Lightning interface after its introduction in 2012.
It’s not entirely clear whether these updated accessories will be launched at Apple’s “Wonderlust” event on Tuesday, September 12, but the spate of fake images could hint that Apple is preparing to launch some of these accessories next week.
Additionally, Gurman explained that a new MagSafe battery pack is in development but not ready for launch yet. The next generation of battery packs apparently involves a new concept that allows users to wirelessly charge multiple devices at the same time by stacking multiple battery packs on top of each other. For example, two iPhones can be charged simultaneously, with the phones placed on either side of the battery pack.
