Meta signed a series of deals this week adding more than 1 gigawatt of new generation capacity, further strengthening its already sizable renewables portfolio. The social media company announced Thursday that it will acquire 791 megawatts of solar and wind energy in Ohio, Arkansas and Texas from project developer Invenergy. On Wednesday, Meta said it will acquire environmental properties from Adapture Renewables' two solar farms in Texas with a combined capacity of 360 megawatts.

The projects are expected to be commissioned in 2027 and 2028.
Meta has been aggressively acquiring renewable energy. Last month it signed a deal to buy 650 megawatts of power from two solar projects being built by utility and power generation company AES. Earlier this month, the technology company signed a deal with XGS Energy to build a 150-megawatt enhanced geothermal power plant in New Mexico.
The deals would provide a boost to renewable energy at a time when renewable energy subsidies are expected to be eliminated in reconciliation bills being discussed by House and Senate Republicans.
Solar power, in particular, is the fastest way to get new power for data centers today. A typical solar farm can be completed in about 18 months, and phased construction can provide power even faster.
