Recently, the PlayStation Store has been widely criticized for allowing developers to use artificial intelligence to generate content and release games at extremely low development costs. Social media users have pointed out that some game works are full of obvious traces of AI generation, and the quality of the content is worrying.

Flooding! PS Store sparks controversy over listing low-investment AI-generated games

Games named and criticized include Brainrot: Fighting, Br Br Patapim, Lirili Larila, and Brainrot Tung Tung Sahur. Among them, the character of "Br Br Patapim" appears in "Brainrot: Fighting", suggesting that these games may be produced by the same development studio or related studios. It is reported that these games were submitted by the developer "CGI Lab SRL".

Players pointed out that these games have typical AI generation errors when it comes to art assets. For example, in the background image of the PlayStation store page of "Brainrot: Fighting", the left hand of the character on the right side of the screen only has four fingers, while the right hand has conventional five fingers. This type of mistake is often caused by uncorrected AI image generation. At the same time, the actual game demo screen has also been criticized for lacking polish and empty content.

The problem extends to larger publishers as well. In February of this year, Activision disclosed information on its use of generative AI tools in the development process on Steam's "Call of Duty" experience application page. According to reports, the loading screen of "Zombie Santa" in "Call of Duty: Black Ops 6" also had an "incorrect number of fingers" problem, which exposed the shortcomings of generated content.

At the same time, a developer of Microsoft's Halo Studio anonymously broke the news to foreign media Engadget this month that the company is vigorously promoting plans to replace human positions with AI agent tools. This has further triggered concerns among the industry and players about AI replacing the traditional game creation process.

Currently, PlayStation officials have not publicly responded to this wave of controversy.
