Apple's upcomingiphone 17 AirThe battery may be much smaller than the rest of the iPhone 17 series, with sources saying it has a smaller capacity than anything in the iPhone 16 series.

Weibo account "Shenna Digital" claims that the iPhone 17 Air will use a battery with a rated capacity of approximately 2,800 mAh. That's significantly smaller than all iPhone 16 models.
iPhone 16: 3561 mAh
iPhone 16 Plus: 4674 mAh
iPhone 16 Pro: 3582 mAh
iPhone 16 Pro Max: 4685 mAh
The reason for the reduced size may be the iPhone 17 Air's rumored 5.5mm ultra-thin bezels, one of the thinnest designs Apple has attempted to date. This design limits interior space, making it more difficult to install larger capacity batteries.
To make up for the reduced battery capacity, Apple plans to take advantage of iOS 26’s Adaptive Power Mode, a new software feature designed to extend battery life throughout the day. This optimization will allow iPhone 17 Air to meet "all-day" use requirements even with low battery capacity.
The definition remains vague. Apple's internal testing shows that only 60 to 70 percent of users are able to get through a full day of use without recharging. By comparison, current iPhone models can reportedly run at 80 to 90 percent capacity under the same conditions.
Apple may also reintroduce external batteries as an optional accessory. The previous generation of official battery clips was released for the iPhone 11 series, followed by the now-discontinued MagSafe battery pack for iPhone 12 and above.
These cases offer additional power in addition to physical protection, which may appeal to those who want the design of the iPhone 17 Air without giving up battery life.
iPhone 17 Air is expected to be released in September 2025 with the standard and Pro versions. The iPhone 17 Air is positioned somewhere in between in terms of pricing and features, and is rumored to share some internals with the iPhone 17 Pro series while bringing a new aesthetic focused on thinness, lightness, and portability.
Battery life is probably the main compromise. Those who do not charge for a long time, or who rely on their mobile phones to take pictures, navigate or play games, may need to wait for actual use experience reviews, or consider Apple's external battery accessories.
