The weekend is finally here, and as always the KDE team has released the latest update on their work this week. This week's update is shorter than usual, but it has some good news for die-hard Plasma fans. The most eye-catching job was the addition of rounded bottom corners to the Breeze-trimmed windows. Scheduled for implementation in the upcoming Plasma 6.5, this visual update is a feature that many users have long requested, with formal proposals even submitted as early as 2021.

Its official release means there will be less need for community-developed workarounds. kde-rounded-corners is a popular third-party script that has been used for this purpose for many years. The feature will be enabled by default, but it offers an option for those who prefer the classic sharp-cornered look.

UI improvements for Plasma 6.5 are still in progress, and work has begun on optimizing KRunner search result sorting. Initial improvements include removing the priority boost for KDE apps and favorites to reduce randomness in search results. The Disks and Devices widget has also become more flexible, now allowing disks to be mounted without running error checking, or disks to be mounted without error checking running.

In addition to this, sidebars in apps like Discover and System Monitor are now resizable and will remember the width you set. The weather report widget now fetches new data as soon as the computer wakes up from a long sleep.

In terms of bug fixes, we plan to fix a bug with the lock screen cursor so that it dims correctly when HDR mode is turned on. To improve performance, Plasma 6.5 will reduce KWin's reliance on colorimetric information in monitor EDID data, as this information is often incorrect.

Data for the file dialog window size is now stored in the state configuration file instead of the settings configuration file, and the developers have added more automated tests to verify the loading process of Plasma.

The fourth bug-fix version of Plasma 6.4, 6.4.4, will be released on August 5th. The update is expected to address a number of issues, such as the volume control page not resizing correctly in some languages, app crashes when using software rendering, and form flickering in system settings.
