Today, China Railway officials introduced the wonderful phenomenon of "trains running sideways". In the railway maintenance scene,The so-called "sideways movement" does not mean that the train is running abnormally, but the locomotive moves laterally through professional equipment during the maintenance process. Behind it lies the precise logic of railway maintenance.

In the Guangzhou locomotive maintenance section, the giant "blue cylinder"-shaped locomotive moving platform has become the core equipment to achieve this operation.

The moving platform is 32 meters long and 8 meters wide, with a load capacity of up to 160 tons. It can accurately "laterally move" the locomotive to be repaired from the track to the next maintenance bay.

The ferry bridges at both ends can connect the train to the ground track through lifting movements, and cooperate with the driver's cab operation to achieve "one-time alignment", allowing unpowered locomotives to be efficiently transferred between different maintenance areas.

This "lateral movement" is essential during locomotive maintenance. A locomotive undergoes at least 28 lateral movements from disassembly, component overhaul to reassembly and debugging.

Since the locomotive to be repaired is in a powerless state, it needs to be moved with the help of a road-rail vehicle. This special vehicle is equipped with 4 conventional wheels and 4 small iron wheels on rails. It can run on both roads and rails. It has a maximum towing weight of 500 tons and can easily tow locomotives in and out of the warehouse.

This "sideways running" maintenance mode is an important part of the railway system to ensure the quality of locomotives. The precise transfer achieved through professional equipment allows each locomotive to be repaired to receive comprehensive and meticulous maintenance.
