Chikungunya first broke out in Tanzania in 1952. Now the disease is rapidly expanding with the help of climate change and cross-border travel.Chikungunya virus has been discovered in more than 110 countries in Asia, Africa, Europe and the Americas. The data shows thatChikungunya is transmitted through the bite of Aedes mosquitoes (Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus), and there is no evidence of human-to-human transmission.
After an Aedes mosquito bites a person or animal in the viremic stage, the virus reproduces in the mosquito's body and reaches the salivary glands where it multiplies and then spreads the virus after an external incubation period of 2 to 10 days. The incubation period is 1-12 days, mostly 3-7 days.
The main symptoms of patients include sudden high fever (>39°C), symmetrical polyarthralgia, rash, etc., which are mainly mild. In high-risk groups, such as infants, elderly people over 65 years old, and patients with underlying diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, or heart disease, severe symptoms may occur.
We would like to remind citizens to be prepared to prevent mosquito bites when going out for activities, wear long clothes and long trousers, stay away from mosquito breeding areas, and use mosquito repellents scientifically and rationally to prevent mosquito bites.
