As Apple improves AappleCare, iPad and Apple Watch owners can get theft and loss insurance for their devices for the first time. In addition to launching the new AppleCare One plan, which covers multiple devices with one payment, Apple is also expanding its existing AppleCare+ service. This is fromFebruary 2025This is the first major change to the policy since AppleCare+ became a subscription-only service.

Most importantly, AppleCare+ adds protection against theft and loss for iPad and Apple Watch. This new coverage will be effective from July 24, 2025, and in both cases users will enjoy the following coverage:
Theft and loss coverage up to two times per year
Unlimited repairs for drops and spills
24/7 priority support
New coverage can be paid monthly or annually. However, a service fee will also apply when making a claim under the new theft and loss provisions.
Including these service fees, prices are as follows:
iPad: $4.99 per month or $49.99 per year
iPad Service Fee: $129 per claim
Apple Watch: $2.99 per month or $29.99 per year
Apple Watch service fee: $199 per claim
Previously, AppleCare was available for a specific period of time, with users paying the full cost up front, usually two to three years.
Under the new system, subscriptions are theoretically unlimited and only terminate when the user cancels. However, while Apple doesn't seem to make this clear in AppleCare+, which includes theft and loss coverage, in its new AppleCare One package, it does stipulate that the device must be older than four years.
If your iPad or Apple Watch is stolen or lost, there are various limitations on coverage. In both cases, Find My must be enabled on the device.
Well, for the iPad, the Apple Pencil, Magic Keyboard, or any other Apple-branded keyboard will not be replaced.
However, an Apple Pencil and a keyboard are covered for accidental damage if they are included in AppleCare One's three-device coverage. Unless you don’t have other devices, this doesn’t seem like a good match for AppleCare One’s device coverage.
For Apple Watch, no matter what band was stolen, the replacement band will be an Apple brand, such as Hermès or Nike. Also note that Apple Watch Theft and Loss Coverage does not cover the loss of just the band. This coverage only applies to the entire Apple Watch and band.
