Intel has released a PDF manual in an attempt to "enlighten customers" on how AMD's latest processor line is different from what it looks like. Intel has criticized AMD's mobile products, namely the Ryzen 7020 series, and its complex brand architecture. Intel compared the Zen2-based Ryzen 57520U to snake oil, claiming it has a "long history of selling half-truths to unsuspecting customers."

AMD often continues to use older technology to provide customers with more affordable products, which is a good strategy for those on a tight budget or who don't need the latest and greatest. The problem is that the recent rebranding, in addition to being confusing, makes old technology look like new technology. Intel's "CoreTruth" expressed dissatisfaction with this approach, pointing out that the Ryzen 57520U is built on the outdated Zen2 architecture from 2019 and attempts to make it look like a more advanced product from 2022.

Intel compared the Ryzen 57520U to the Core i5-1335U, which scored a high 83% on the BapCo-developed CrossMark benchmark (which may not be the most unbiased metric, as both AMD and Nvidia have accused the company of favoring Intel in the past), emphasizing that "latest doesn't always mean newest."

The company hints that uninformed customers may mistakenly believe that the Ryzen 57520U is the latest product simply because it has the number 7 in its name, just like the latest AM5 CPU. In fact, only the third number represents the architecture. Intel says the truth is hiding in plain sight (the orange stickers may help, too), but it's also hard to spot.

Here's how to decipher AMD's mysterious processor names:

The first number represents the release year: 7-2022, 8-2023, 9-2024, etc.

The second number indicates the segment: 1 and 2 - Athlon, 3 and 4 - Ryzen3, etc.

The third number indicates the architecture: 2-Zen2, 3-Zen3, 4-Zen4, etc.

The fourth number indicates functional isolation: 0 - lower limit model, 5 - upper limit model.

The letters indicate TDP and dimensions: U-ultrabook, HS-game notebook, etc.

Therefore, you can understand Ryzen57520U as a mid-level Zen2 processor released in 2022, suitable for ultrabooks with 15-28WTDP.

AMD is positioning the Ryzen 7020 processor for the affordable device and education markets with more advanced iGPUs. Intel countered that "the future of education and learning depends on the latest technology," adding that the Intel Core i3-N305 offers faster performance when it comes to benchmarking, music or photo editing.
