According to Microsoft's plan, mainstream support for Windows 10 will end on October 14, 2025. Although Microsoft will provide users with an additional year of free updates, many users have begun to look for alternatives. According to the latest data from Statcounter,Windows 10's market share is declining sharply. In July 2025, Windows 10's market share quickly fell from being equally equal to Windows 11 to being lower than Windows 11.

The current market share of Windows 10 is 42.99%, a drop of 4.99 percentage points in just one month. Compared with the same period last year, its market share dropped from 64.99% to 42.99%, a drop of 22 percentage points.

At the same time, Windows 11’s market share is rising rapidly, from 47.98% to 53.39%, an increase of 5.41 percentage points in just one month. This increase is rare for the controversial Windows 11. Compared to the same period last year, Windows 11’s market share increased by 22.56 percentage points.

Currently, the supported versions of Windows (mainly Windows 10 and Windows 11) account for more than 96% of the Windows market share.

The remaining market share is divided between Windows 7 (2.04%), Windows 8 (0.88%), Windows XP (0.44%) and Windows 8.1 (0.23%).

For users still using Windows 10, it may be time to start considering alternatives. One option is to join Microsoft's Extended Security Update Program, which provides users with security updates for an additional 12 months.

Another option is to directly upgrade to Windows 11. As other manufacturers are about to stop driver support for Windows 10, giving up Windows 10 is also an option sooner or later.
