macOS Tahoe quietly retires the old oneMacThe drive icon switches to a sleeker, SSD-inspired design. Published on TuesdaymacOS TahoeThe 26th developer beta brought some discouraging news. The old Macintosh HD icon will be replaced.

Replace Mac HD icon with new SSD-inspired icon
The old icon depicted a real hard drive—a metal box with screws, vents, and even a warning sticker. That's impressive considering Apple did away with hard drives more than a decade ago.
The new icon is based on the modern design of an SSD. With its rounded edges and large, bold Apple logo on the front, it’s really easy to distinguish it from the old icon.
The new design not only conforms to Apple's modern aesthetic, but also fits the theme better. Hopefully, it won't cause as much controversy as the Finder icon revamp.
