Recently, CCTV-4 broadcast "Interview with Lu Jian·Dialogue with Zhang Yanzhong". In the interview, Zhang Yanzhong, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and chief designer of large aircraft independent engineering, talked about the latest progress of the C919 and the domestic engine Yangtze 1000A. Lu Jian asked: "The C919 has not yet obtained airworthiness certificates from Europe and the United States. Will it be difficult for us to make breakthroughs in this area in the future?"
Zhang Yanzhong said,We will not give up obtaining foreign airworthiness certificates, but we are also opposed to using airworthiness certificates to "stuck" our necks. "We are not afraid! China has the ability to solve the 'stuck neck', and the C919 has actually reached European and American airworthiness standards."

It is understood that the so-called airworthiness is a mandatory requirement for civil aircraft under the framework of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
ICAO currently has 193 member states, including China. The rules it formulates include airworthiness, airports, air traffic control, etc. Airworthiness mainly focuses on the aircraft itself.
How to obtain U.S. and European airworthiness certificates?
According to media reports, Huang Shuoqiao, associate professor at the Civil Aviation Administration of China, said that my country, the United States and the European Union have signed airworthiness agreements covering "mutual recognition" of transport aircraft.
Now the C919 has obtained the type certificate issued by the Civil Aviation Administration of China. If you want to further obtain the airworthiness certificate from the FAA and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency,Based on the China-US/China-EU airworthiness agreement, you can apply to the FAA and EU Aviation Safety Agency for type design approval through the Civil Aviation Administration of China.
Under the above circumstances, the FAA and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency do not need to recognize or approve the production license issued by the Civil Aviation Administration of China. COMAC can export the C919 to the United States or the European Union, and on the basis of the export airworthiness certificate issued by the Civil Aviation Administration of China, obtain the U.S. and European airworthiness certificates through the airworthiness inspections of the FAA and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency.
