On Monday local time, American entrepreneur Elon Musk threatened to take legal action against Apple.Accused Apple of violating antitrust laws in managing App Store rankings."Apple's behavior prevents any artificial intelligence company except OpenAI from reaching the top of the App Store list, which is a clear violation of antitrust laws. xAI will take immediate legal action," Musk wrote on the social media platform X.

"Why do you refuse to put X or Grok in your 'must have apps' section when X is the #1 news app in the world and Grok is #5 among all apps? Are you being political?" Musk wrote in another post.

Musk provided no evidence to support his claims.

As of now, OpenAI's ChatGPT ranks first on the top free apps list in the U.S. iOS store and is the only AI chatbot app in Apple's "must-have apps" area.

Before threatening legal action against Apple, Musk celebrated Grok surpassing Google to become the fifth-ranked free app on the App Store.

According to Sensor Tower data, ChatGPT also ranks first in the Google Play Store.

Apple partnered with OpenAI last year to integrate ChatGPT into its iPhone, iPad, Mac laptop and desktop computer products.

Musk said at the time: "If Apple integrates OpenAI at the operating system level, Apple devices will be banned from my company. This is an unacceptable security violation."

In July this year, xAI released the latest version of its Grok4 chatbot. Musk spoke highly of Grok 4, calling it "currently the most powerful AI in the world."

Last Thursday, OpenAI released its latest artificial intelligence large model GPT-5. Altman, CEO of OpenAI, described GPT-5 as “a Ph.D.-level expert on call.” In addition, the price of GPT-5 is cheaper than previous models and other competing products, making it more cost-effective.

Some analysts pointed out that as a participant in the artificial intelligence industry, Musk’s xAI faces severe challenges from competitor OpenAI.
